Calico Beans
Cooked with bacon and ground beef in a tangy, sweet sauce. They can be made ahead of time and put in a crockpot to take to pitch-ins. Substitute red kidney, butter beans or cannellini beans for your favorites.

- 1 pound ground chuck
- ½ pound bacon
- 1 cup diced onions
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup BBQ sauce I use Sweet Baby Rays
- 3 Tablespoons vinegar
- 2 – 15 oz cans pork & beans undrained
- 1 – 15 oz can red kidney beans drained
- 1 – 15 oz can baby butter beans or cannellini beans drained

- Cut up the bacon and brown in a large pan. Remove from pan when brown.
- Cook the ground chuck till most of the pink is gone. Add the onions and cool till they are tender.
- Drain the grease off and add the bacon, ground chuck and onions back into the pan.
- Combine all the other ingredients and stir well. Adjust seasonings to taste.
- Cook on the stove till everything is heated up well.
- Put in crockpot on low for 4-6 hours.
